Meet the Author

Roseanne Oppmann earned her Bachelor’s degree in  Teaching and Special Education from National College  of Education, and her Master’s degree in Human  Service Counseling from National Louis University. Roseanne has twenty years of experience working as a Special Education Teacher in grades three through high school, and eighteen years experience as a Professional School Counselor in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade. Roseanne has worked with diverse populations and children with special needs and behavioral issues in schools, and in the community. In 2002 she was the recipient of the “Illinois Elementary School Counselor of the Year” award. In 2007 she was the recipient of the “Illinois Middle School Counselor of the Year” award.

Roseanne is a Certified Teacher, a Nationally Certified Counselor, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, and a Clinically Certified Juvenile Treatment Specialist.  Due to her strong belief in professional involvement she serves on several professional organizational boards and committees at the local, state, and national level. She is the current president of the Association of Child and Adolescent Counseling in Illinois, the Liaison to state branches for the International Association for Marriage and Family Counseling Association, the Past- President of the Illinois Association for Couple and Family Counseling, and a Past-President of the Illinois School Counselor’s Association.

Roseanne is a clinician in Rockford, Illinois where she has a private practice.  In addition to her practice she provides educational and mental health consulting services to schools, organizations, and community agencies.  She facilitates groups, parenting classes and workshops relating to behavioral issues and mental health and wellness.
Roseanne works with children, adolescents, adults and families. Her strongest passion includes her work with children, adolescents, and adults on the Autism Spectrum, and children and adolescents with behavioral Issues. Roseanne includes her Certified Therapy Goldendoodle, Myla in her work with her clients and their family members to empower and guide the entire family towards cohesiveness.

 

Meet the Illustrator

 

Maria Ciaccio, a mother, illustrator, and professional web designer resides in Chicago, Illinois.  Her inspiration comes from her vast appreciation for the arts and her sweet baby girl Laila.

She looks forward to the proud day she will walk Laila to her first day of school and remind her that her Mommy will always be with her in heart.
